Bellevue public safety officials have learned of protests being planned for the evening of Tuesday, May 11, in downtown Bellevue. One demonstration was advertised to start at 7 p.m. at Downtown Park. Two other groups may stage protests outside the Hyatt Regency.
The situation continues to evolve, with police monitoring closely and preparing for the possibility of unrest, based on flyers posted by groups. As of Monday, police could not say how many people may attend the demonstrations.
The City of Bellevue is committed to protecting everyone’s right to protest or demonstrate peacefully, but police will take action against attempts to destroy property or injure people.
Due to regular traffic and the gatherings, downtown is expected to be very congested. Residents may want to avoid the area Tuesday night. Real-time updates will be posted on the Police Department’s Twitter handle - @BvuePD.
