A man who was struck by a driver while walking in a crosswalk has died from his injuries.
The incident happened around 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, when the driver of a pickup truck traveling north on 140th Avenue Northeast and turning east onto Northeast 20th Street crashed into the man. The 66-year-old Bellevue resident died on Tuesday. His name had not yet been released by the King County Medical Examiner’s office as of Thursday morning.
The driver, 55, remained at the scene and called for help immediately. Police continue to investigate the incident.
City of Bellevue officials extend their sympathy to family and friends of the victim. It was the eighth fatal traffic collision in Bellevue in the past 14 months and the third since January.
“I’m so sorry for this terrible loss of life and for the pain his family must be experiencing,” said Transportation Director Andrew Singelakis. “Through our Vision Zero program we aspire to eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes on Bellevue streets. This latest death is a reminder that we have much work left to do.”
