The city of Bellevue and the state Department of Transportation are partnering to study a new interchange to access Interstate 405 in south downtown. The intent is to lessen traffic congestion on I-405 and improve access to south downtown.
Community input is sought on preliminary interchange alternatives, including a “no build” option. People can obtain information about the study and seven alternatives, and participate in an online survey at EngagingBellevue.com through Aug. 21. Content is available in multiple languages.
The preliminary alternatives under consideration are located between Northeast Second and Southeast Eighth streets (map). Specifically, varied interchange configurations at Northeast Second Street, Southeast Sixth Street and Lake Hills Connector are being proposed. The online open house will allow for open-ended comments on each alternative.
The input will be shared with the technical team conducting the analysis and help to identify a preliminary preferred option. A second online open house is planned for November for community feedback on that option.
Study findings and community feedback will be presented to the City Council in late fall for its selection of a final preferred alternative.
Selecting a preferred alternative will enable the city to communicate with property owners and developers regarding right of way needs and site access options. Results of the study also will position the city for potential project funding by the state Legislature.
